Glagolev Alexander Nikolaevich 1893–1970

Soviet graphic artist, poster artist and illustrator. In 1919 he began working as a cartoonist in the Tver branch of ROSTA's Windows of Satire. He worked as an illustrator in Tverskaya Pravda and Tverskaya Village, where he remained after demobilization from the Red Army. In 1927–1928 he organized the Tver branch of the Academy of Arts, and as its chairman he organized the first two thematic exhibitions of local artists in Tver. In 1928, at the invitation of the editors of the newspaper “Red Crimea”, he moved to Simferopol, where he worked as an artist and head of the illustration department. He took an active part in the life of Crimean artists. He was the organizer and chairman of the Crimean Society of Revolutionary Artists. In 1929 he became one of the founders and leaders of the Isofront art group. He made active efforts to Sovietize Crimean art, search for “nuggets” from the people and ideological education of professional artists. Participant in the exhibition “The Art of Soviet Crimea” at the State Museum of Oriental Cultures (1935).
