Zuyev Evgeniy Vladimirovich (1923, Tver region – 1989, Kazan).
From 1947 to 1953 Evgeniy Zuyev studied at the Tartu Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts, where E. Kits and V. Oreshnikov were his teachers. Even before entering the institute he experienced a strong influence of Mikhail Nesterov with whom he corresponded in 1942. Zuyev’s drawings shown in the exhibition of frontline artists’ works in 1944 were pointed out by Nathan Altman. In 1946 the artist met with Igor Grabar. After graduating from the institute he was directed to work in Kazan where he was a children's art school director and taught at the Kazan School of Arts. His still lives brought him the 1st degree honorary diploma of the Culture Ministry of the RSFSR at an exhibition in Moscow in 1957. In 1964 Zuyev joined the Artists’ Union of the USSR. He repeatedly had his one-man shows in Kazan, e.g. in 1999 in the State Museum of Fine Arts of Tatarstan Republic. The artist’s works are in the State Museum of Fine Arts of Tatarstan Republic (Kazan), in art galleries of Ulyanovsk, Saratov and Volgograd, in private collections in France and USA. Some were sold at Hôtel Drouot auctions in Paris.
