Korovin Sergey Alekseevich

Korovin Sergey Alekseevich (1858, Moscow – 1908, Moscow).

Russian artist, painter and drawer, author of socially symbolic images in the spirit of the ‘mobile Art Exhibition painters’. Brother of K.A. Korovin. Later works of the Artist are proximate to the poetics of the romantic modernism. Acted as well as a magazine painter, collaborating with the ‘Raduga’ and the ‘Rossia’ Magazines (1883-1884). Worked as a book illustrator, but his most famous series of illustrations to the ‘Overcoat’ by Gogol (charcoal, 1901, the State Tretyakov Gallery) remained unpublished. Since 1888 was teaching at the Moscow Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. The works of S.A. Korovin are kept at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museums.
