Kandinskiy Vasiliy Vasilevich (1866, Moscow – 1944, France).
Painter, graphic artist. Since 1886-92 studied at Moscow University Law Department, then in 1897-99 studied at the studio under A. Azhbe and F. Schtuk in the Academy of Arts (Munich). Founder of several art unions in Munich – the “Falange” (1901), the “New Association of Artists” (1909), the “Blue Rider” (1911). The exhibitor of the first exhibition of the Diamond Knave” (1910). Member of the“World of Art” union. (1921). Gave lessons in Moscow and Munich. Organizer and director of the Art Culture Museum (1919), member of the State Institute of Art Culture (1920). Since 1921 was the vice-president of Russian Academy of Art Sciences. In 1921-23 became a professor at Bauhaus. One of the founders of abstractionism. His works are exhibited in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in many regional museums and private collections.
