Lagrenee, Loui Jean

Lagrenee, Loui Jean (1724, Paris –1805, Paris).

Painter and etcher. Karl Vanloo’s apprentice. In 1754 attended French Academy in Rome. This year was also awarded the title of Academician. In 1760 moved to St. Petersburg upon invitation of Elizaveta Petrovna to complete the work in Zimniy Palace. Taught in Russian Academy of Arts. During 1781-1787 hold a post of director in French Academy in Rome. His artworks are in the Louvre (Paris), the Hermitage, the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, GMII named after A.S. Pushkin.
