Mikhaylov Rufel Fyodorovich

Mikhaylov Rufel Fyodorovich (born in 1936, Ivanovo Region).

His father, a teacher in an art school, named him after Rafael Santi, but the name was misspelled in the documents, and so he became Rufel. He studied at the Ivanovo Art College in 1951-1956. Since 1958 he was a candidate for a membership in the Artists Union, and in 1968 he joined the Artists Union of the USSR. He specializes in portraits and thematic pictures. He first exhibited in a republican exhibition in 1957, and after that regularly participated in regional, zonal, and republican exhibitions. R.F. Mikhailov’s works are in the Ivanovo Museum of Fine Arts, in the Zavolzhsk museum (Ivanovo region) and other regional museums; in private collections in Russia, Italy, France, USA, England. In 1972, at a republican exhibition in Moscow, S.V. Gerasimov has said of a picture by R.F. Mikhailov, Youths, that the artist “got the blue well”.
