Nevrev Nickolay Vasilyevich

Nevrev Nickolay Vasilyevich (1830, Vitebsk region – 1904, Moscow).

Nevrev was among the leading Russian ‘slice of life’-artists in the mid-nineteenth century. In 1870s he began working in the field of history painting. Having studied at the Moscow College of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under M. Scotti and S. Zaryanko (1851-1856), he obtained the rank of off-grade painter for genre pieces in 1855 and the rank of grade painter in 1859. From 1887 to 1890 Nevrev taught at the Moscow College of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He was a member and regular exhibition participant of the Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions from 1881 on. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery and in the State Russian Museum.
