Prokopchuk Mikhail Zakharovich

Prokopchuk Mikhail Zakharovich (born 1919, Vinnitsa Region).

He entered Moscow Central College of Art and Industry in 1939. During the war, he worked as an artist decorator in Sverdlovsk. Continued his training in Mukhina College of Art and Industry in Leningrad. Since 1948, he painted scenic decorations in the Lensovet Theater. Since 1952, he worked as a restorer of painting, participated in the restoration of painted ceilings in Peter the Great’s Summer Palace, and also in the restoration of paintings in the St. Nicola Sea Cathedral, Kazan Kathedral, museum-palace in Pavlovsk, etc. In 1957-78, he was an artist-restorer in the Directorate of Petrodvorets museum-palaces. In 1988, he was qualified as a top grade artist-restorer, and become a member of the Leningrad division of the Artists’ Union (restorers section).

Author of floral still lives and landscapes of Petrodvorets, Pavlovsk, Pushkin, Leningrad. Participant of numerous exhibitions in Leningrad and nearby towns, including Restoration of Museum Treasures in USSR (1984) and the exhibition of creative work of Leningrad artists-restorers (1986).
Prokopchuk also had a number of one-man shows.
