Plavinsky Dmitry Petrovich (born in 1937, Moscow - 2012, Moscow)).
He studied in the Department of Scenography of the Year 1905 Moscow Regional Art College under V. Shestakov and L. Fedorov (1951-1956).
In 1957 he participated in the young artists exhibitions in the Academy of Arts and in the Gorky Park, held as a part of the Sixth World Youth Festival. There he met future nonconformist artists A. Zverev, A. Kharitonov, M. Kulakov, and experienced a strong influence of an American nonfigurative artist, Coleman. Since the late 1950-s he become one of leaders of the nonconformist art movement, exhibiting his works at so called “apartment exhibitions”. In 1962, J.P. Sartre visited Plavinsky’s studio. In 1975, the artist participated in the first exhibition of the unofficial art in the Beekeeping Pavilion in the VDNKh USSR. Since 1991 he lives and works in New York.
His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum of Modern Art, Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum (New Jersey, the USA), and in many other collections in Russia and abroad.
