Surikov Vasiliy Ivanovich

Acting member of the Academy of Arts. Studied at Petersburg Academy of Arts (1869-75) under P.P. Chistyakov. Joined the Association of Itinerant Art Exhibitions (in 1881) and the Union of Russian Artists. During 1880-s Surikov created his the most significant works – monumental historical paintings "The Morning of an Imperial Guard's Execution” (1881), "Menshikov in Beryozovo” (1883), “Boyar Morozova” (1887), “Capture of Snow Town” (1891), “The Conquest of Siberia by Ermak” (1895). The artist’s works can be found in the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum.
