Schotel, Johannes Christian

Schotel, Johannes Christian (1787, Dodrecht – 1838, the same).

Holland painter of sea-scapes, etcher and lithographer. Studied under painters Adrian Mailman and Martius Schumann. In 19th century his paintings were popular among Russian collectors and were represented in Volkonskiys’ and Golitsyns' collections, as well as were acquired by emperor Nikolay the First. The artist’s works are in the Hermitage, GMII named after A.S. Pushkin.
