Saltanov Sergei Nikolayevich

Saltanov Sergei Nikolayevich (1870 – 1917, France).

Sergei Saltanov was a painter and a drawer. He studied at the Moscow university, later at the Académie Julien in Paris, where he got to know Leo Tolstoy’s daughter Tatyana. Saltanov often visited the Tolstoys at Yasnaya Polyana and made a great number of his pictures (mostly local landscapes) while staying there. Sergei Saltanov had his one-man shows in 1908 and 1913. His works were shown in the Tolstoy exhibition in 1911. In 1914 he emigrated to France. The artist’s works are in the State Tolstoy Museum in Moscow, in the Yasnaya Polyana estate museum and in a number of private collections in Russia and abroad.
