Yury Beloivan: exhibition “Other People” Photography, sculpture August 18 – September 17 2011 Vernissage September 7 at 19:00 SOVCOM Gallery Moscow, 28 Shchepkina st.

Famous explorer, photo artist and sculptor Yury Beloivan presents his exhibition project “Other People” at the SOVCOM Gallery. It is a wide aspect photo story about variety and unity of human essence: “This minute, together with us, there are about 7 billion people living. They are not good or bad. They are just people different from us. When we realize that it will become much easier for us to live on the Earth. This is what my project is about.” – says the author about the exhibition. Geographical and ethnographical photos are the trend of the day in the art of photography. Often when there is good equipment at hand, such photos are made from aboard a personal flying, swimming or driving vehicle. Yury Beloivan has explored all the routes on his own on foot: the highest peaks of the world including those over 7000 meters high and both Poles. And finally - India. Where all the “other people” were within arm`s reach. It is, if anything, the very moment when the ethnology finally ceases to be a “secondary” historical science and becomes the ground for creation of images for the photo artist. And the artist perceives himself not only as a photo register, but as a creator or maybe as a transmitter of images and reflections of the other world – the world of the “other people”. Among these millions of people, as Beloivan narrates, “I have seen poor, tired, destitute people, but I have not seen miserable and intimidated people, so many of which we have, even among millionaires.” Exposure to material worlds, geographical – worlds of megapolises and mountain peaks resulted in an attempt of a deeper – psychological immersion: this time into the world of the “different”, into images and reflections of the “other people”. Apart from the photo art, skills in the craft of sculpture come to the aid of Yury Beloivan in the search for principia and sources. Statuary compositions of bronze and stone will be shown on this exhibition.
