Karpenko Mikhail Mikhailovich (1915–1991)

Painter, graphic illustrator, poster artist. Member of the Union of Artists of the Latvian SSR (since 1950). Known for his posters "Under the banner of Lenin under the leadership of Stalin - forward for the complete defeat of the German occupiers!" and "Let's clear the Soviet land of the German invaders!" (1943). In 1946, Karpenko began to engage in book graphics. Karpenko is the artist of the first in the Soviet Union illustrated edition of B. Polevoy's novel "The Tale of a Real Man" (Latgosizdat, 1947). Collaborated with Latvian publishing houses (1948–1949). In the 1940s and 50s he was engaged in propaganda and mass art. The author of political posters: "The indestructible union of free republics United forever Great Russia" (1948), "Glory to the Soviet people, successfully fulfilling the new Stalinist five-year plan!" (1950). Participant of numerous republican, all-Union and foreign exhibitions. By the 70th anniversary, his personal exhibition was held at the House of Artists in Riga. Books with illustrations by M. Karpenko were published in Bulgaria, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Portugal, and France.
