Popov Andrey Andreevich (1832-1896)
Genre painter. He received his initial artistic training under the guidance of his father, a provincial painter. In 1846 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. His teachers were V.Vorobyov and B.Villevalde. At the academic exhibition in 1857 he received a small gold medal for the painting "Demyanov's ear" (on the plot of Krylov's fable). In 1860, the Academy awarded Popov with the title of class artist of the 1st degree and a large gold medal for the painting "Tea Warehouse at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair". From 1863 to 1867, a pensioner in Paris and Rome, he wrote "Walking on Monte Pinho" there. Upon his return, he painted a large canvas "Balagans in Tula on Holy Week" (State Tretyakov Gallery; State Russian Museum - repetition).
