Exhibition

Exhibition "Peace. Labor. May! Soviet graphic art". April 25 - July 30, 2001.

The display presents more than a 100 of graphic works by famous Soviet painters. The theme of the exhibition, “Peace, labour, May”, is explored by the examples of posters, satirical illustrations from famous Soviet editions, drawings, illustrations from children’s books and sketches, drafts of greeting cards, lithographs and album sketches.

In Soviet times people rejoiced in and had a lot of fun during the celebrations of Labor Day. The May 1st festivities united families and communities. Huge crowds lined up on squares with posters and air balloons in their hands singing songs. Celebratory demonstrations are the favorite motif and maybe an artistic cliche of the period. The art works of the time eradiate some strange feeling of nostalgia. Visit our exhibition and you will get plenty of positive energy!
