The autumn sale of the Sovcom auction house will take place on the 19th of September 2019. This auction promises to be a significant event in the Moscow art market for the first time in an extended period, the monumental work of one of the most prominent domestic artists of the second half of the twentieth century Oleg Tselkov is put up for it. His work "Couple" has been repeatedly exhibited at major exhibitions, published in the "Almanac of Oleg Tselkov" (2004) and other catalogues.
Among the top lots of autumn sale there are several paintings by Mikhail Shemyakin: "Self-portrait" and two still lifes of the 1980s. Works of this period are a real rarity in the Russian art market, as today it is easier to find his late paintings and sculptures.
At the same time, the auction house experts prepared an exciting collection of traditional painting and graphics of the twentieth century. This time we will present theatrical graphics not only by Alexandre Benois but also several sketches for the theatrical production of Boris Godunov by Alexander Degai. Degai used to work in France and Italy, he made sketches of costumes for the artists of the Roman Royal Theater, and his illustrations adorned the pages of many European magazines.
By tradition Sovcom experts prepared a very impressive selection of city landscapes: here is the ceremonial Moscow of Mikhail Matorin, Andrey Gorsky and Nikolai Gorlov, the chamber "Early Spring on the Sparrow Hills" by Igor Obrosov, and beautiful views of Leningrad by Ilya Katz and Nikolai Timkov. Among the Moscow landscapes, it is worth noting the "Disturbing Sky" of the student Apollinarius Vasnetsov and Sergey Malyutin, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts Boris Yakovlev. The symbolic and at the same time topographically recognizable, incredibly expressive work created during the war differs from typical ceremonial views of the capital.
The auction will be held on September 19, 2019 at 7 p.m.
