The following three artworks of the Soviet time have been announced as the top lots of the forthcoming auction bids: the pastel “Going to Dances” by V.I. Kuvin and the poster “Glory to Heroic Red Army!” by P.P. Sokolov-Skalia and A.I. Plotnov and V.I. Govorkov’s poster “Manage Skillfully!”. The first of the top lots is Vladimir Kuvin’s (1927-2001) “Going to Dances” (1956). It was purchased by the gallery from the successors of the artist and estimated at $4000–5000. One more Vladimir Kuvin’s work named “Evening Behind the Window” (1957) will be put up for the forthcoming auction. This work was created at the same period and in the similar spirit as “Going to Dances” and has been preliminarily valued at $4000–5000. Vladimir Ivanovich Kuvin is a famous Soviet painter and artist, member of Union of Artists, vivid representative of the Vladimirskaya School of painting. Works of this artist are exhibited and stored in many regional museums of Russia. It should be noted that Kuvin’s works which have been previously put up for auction sales in the Sovcom Art Gallery have never been estimated so high and their preliminary cost usually ranged between $600 and $2000. The second top lot of the auction is the poster “Glory to Heroic Red Army!” created jointly by Pavel Sokolov-Skalia (1899-1961) and Andrey Plotnov (1916-1997) and received from a private collection.Pavel Petrovich Sokolov-Skalia is the painter of pictures focused on patriotic, historic and revolutionary themes, artist of illustrations to books, scene-designer and a RSFSR People’s Artist. His co-author and follower Andrey Ivanovich Plotnov worked under direction of P. Sokolov-Skalia in the artistic studio of the USSR People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs. Both artists are not “newcomers” of the Sovcom Art Gallery. Their works have been regularly put up for auctions. Thus preliminary price of the poster “Glory to Heroic Red Army!” making $4500–5000 is not quite the top price for such piece of art considering more and more growing interest to political and social posters of the XXth century throughout the world. However this work belongs to the category of the most expensive works at the specific auction sales “Artworks, Posters, Sculpture, Porcelain”. Finally, the third top lot put up for the auction is the poster “Manage Skillfully!” (1968) created by a famous RSFSR Soviet artist Honored Artist, Viktor Govorkov (1906-1974). This piece of art is a property of the Sovcom Art Gallery and has been preliminarily valued at $3000–3500. The total number of all Govorkov’s works put up for auction sales makes 10 pieces and 5 out of each have the same high price as that of the aforementioned poster. Besides the mentioned lots of the forthcoming bids visitors will have opportunity to purchase a lot of art and graphical works created by many other artists (A.V. Shevchenko’s drawing “The Nude against Pink Background” (1915) will have the highest preliminary price of $16 000–16 500), pieces made of ceramics, porcelain, faience, bronze and gypsum within the wide range between $800 and $12000.
