Background of paintings created by acting member of the Uzbekistan Academy of Artists Akmal Nur could be recognized at first sight, cause he shows the real splendid and bright East. Since the artist adheres to two-dimensional representation of objects deprived of volume and depth, his artworks look more like eastern miniatures. Frequently he just replaces the space with flat patterned decorative background carpet.
Probably, these patterns are the best exposed lots at this exhibition, represented by geometrical, pearly, blue, and dark blue strapwork, creeping with golden plants on golden background, like those on ancient eastern ceramics.
Most of his life Akmal Nur lived in Tashkent. Here he studied and works up to the present. Though he says he combines in his paintings traditions of the East and the West, the East is the major and better part. Following traditions of the classical Eastern art, Akmal Nur shows us love, poets and fluting under the Moon. These subjects are as old as time, and no one would dare to call them hackneyed.
