Auction "Russian art of the 20th century". 8 February 2018. Announcement.

On February 8, 2018, the latest of the series of auctions of the Sovcom auction house will take place, offering a unique collection of paintings and sculpture that represent the national art of the 20th century. The catalog of the winter auction includes works by the classics of socialist realism, a very interesting collection of city landscapes, works by nonconformists and new wave artists, graphic works and sculpture.

One of the gems of the auction is «Portrait of an old Jew» by Yehuda Pen, the artist whose name is first of all associated with Mark Chagall. It was Pen who became the first teacher of the world-renowned artist and greatly influenced him.

One of the top lots of the auction is «An interesting radio program» by Lyudmila skubko-Karpas, whose art combines in a natural way the realism of the representatives of academical school of painting and of the Itinerants and the experience of the French Impressionists.

The views of Moscow and Saint Petersburg created in the middle of the 20th century always spark a lot of interest among art collectors and art lovers. This time, the Sovcom experts managed to gather an impressive collection of city landscapes. These are the sunny «Summer in Moscow» and «Sunday near a metro station» by Yuriy Petrov, «Moskvoretsky bridge» by Valentin Polyakov and «Moscow» by Nikolay Solovev. The work by Igor Radoman «Moscow, the capital», which was used as a sketch for the frescoes in the entrance hall of the Soviet exhibition in Beijing, is of historical as well as artistic value.

«New houses and lamp» by Oskar Rabin and «Solitaire» by Vladimir Nemukhin, done in the manner traditional for these artists, will become jewels of any collection of non-official Soviet art of the middle of the 20th century.
