Afanasyev Leonid Mitrofanovich

Landscape artist. Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR (1968). In 1907 he graduated from the classical men's gymnasium in Sevastopol. In 1910 he took part in the exhibition of young Sevastopol artists. In 1918 he took part in the creation of the “Society of Artists of Sevastopol”. In 1918 and 1919 was the organizer and participant of the Society's exhibitions. From 1919 to 1925 studied in the studio of Yu. I. Shpazhinsky. In 1929 he painted two paintings: “The Fire of Ochakov” and “Revolutionary Days of 1917 in Sevastopol” for the Sevastopol Museum of the Revolution. He won the competition for the architectural and artistic design of the square around the Lenin monument in Sevastopol. The project was implemented. In the 1930s He taught in Sevastopol educational institutions: he taught graphic subjects at the Higher Technical School, and architectural design at the technical school of the People's Commissariat of Railways. He worked as a research assistant at the Sevastopol Art Gallery, and at the same time at the Sevastopol branch of the Crimean Artist Association.
