Bembel Andrei Onufrievich (1905 - 1986)
Soviet sculptor, People's Artist of the Byelorussian SSR, professor. From 1924 to 1927 he studied at the Vitebsk Art College under M. A. Kerzin, then in 1931 he graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Arts. Since 1947 - one of the organizers and first teachers of the Minsk Art College. Since 1953 - a teacher at the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute. Chairman of the Union of Artists of the BSSR (1950-1954, 1982-1986).
Since 1927 he took part in art exhibitions. He worked in the field of easel and monumental sculpture. The first monumental works were reliefs for the Government House in Minsk (1932-1934) and the House of Officers in Minsk (1932-1936).
During the Great Patriotic War, he created a portrait of the Hero of the Soviet Union N. F. Gastello. The author of the monument to Dmitry Mendeleev in front of the building of the chemical faculty of Moscow University.
