All-Union Society for Cultural Relations with Abroad (VOKS).

Soviet public organization, founded in 1925. In 1958, it was transformed into the Union of Soviet Societies for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries (USSD). Officially, the tasks of VOKS included "familiarizing the public of the USSR with the cultural achievements of foreign countries and popularizing the culture of the peoples of the Soviet Union abroad, promoting the development and strengthening of friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the USSR and other countries."
