Vasileva Maria Ivanovna

Vasileva Maria Ivanovna (1884, Smolensk - 1957, France).

Since 1907 studied in the academy of A.Matiss, attended La Palette academy. Started exhibiting in Parisian salons: Autumn, Independent, etc since 1909. In 1910 became one of the founders of the Russian literary and art society in Paris and head of Russian Academy of Arts. In the beginning of 1912 within her own art studio established a free studio called "Free Academy" or "The Academy of Maria Vasileva", where no teaching was provided. The studio was attended by A.Matiss, Z.Brak, F.Lezhe, Marevna, P.Pikasso and A.Modiljani. In 1915 came to Russia, participated in exhibitions "0,10" (Pg., 1915-16), "Shop" (, 1916). In 1916 returned to France through Scandinavia. In 1920 held several personal exhibitions in Paris (1922, 1924, and 1928).
