Gurvich Iosif Mikhailovich (1907-1992)
Painter, graphic artist, muralist, Honored Artist of the RSFSR. In 1921-1925, first at the art school of R. Reingbald, then at art courses with Yu.R. Bershadsky, and in 1925-1930 - at the Odessa Art Institute under T.B. Fraerman. Since 1929 he was a member of the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine (ARMU). In 1930-1932 he was a teacher at the Odessa Art Institute, in 1932 he moved to Moscow and devoted himself to creative work. In 1942-1945 - in the army. After the Great Patriotic War, he taught in groups of disabled war artists and at the same time at the Children's Art School (1946-1967). Major works: “Workers’ Rest” (1929, oil on canvas), “Metro Girls” and “On the Construction of the Metro” series (1932-1938, oil on canvas), “Moldavian Carpet Weavers” (1939, oil on canvas), “Moscow . 1941" (1941, oil on canvas), "Barricades on Bashilovka" (1942, oil on canvas), "Liberation of Donbass" (1965-1969), "Portrait of Angelica" (1982). The works are in the museums of Moscow, Kyiv, Kaunas, Baku, Komsomolsk-on-Amur and various foreign galleries.
