Dmitriev-Orenburgsky Nikolay Dmitrievich (1838-1898)

Academician and professor of battle painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Participant in the "revolt of the fourteen". One of the founders of the St. Petersburg artel of artists. He studied with the rector of the academy, F.I. Bruni, and received four small and one large silver medals for his success in drawing and painting. In 1860 he was awarded a small gold medal for the painting “Olympic Games”. In 1868 he received the title of academician for his work “A Drowned Man in the Village.” He illustrated the works of Pushkin, Nekrasov, Turgenev. In 1869, he accompanied Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich the Elder on his trip to the Caucasus and the provinces of Kharkov and Voronezh; the fruit of this journey was an album of 42 pencil drawings. The artist’s works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums.
