Zaltsman Pavel Yakovclevich (1912 – 1985).
Born in Kishinev city. Studied at the First Leningrad State Art studio at a decorative faculty and the same time at the State Institute of Arts history. From 1920s worked as an illustrator for such Leningrad magazines as: “Rezets” (“Cutter”), “Perelom” (“Turning point”), “Stroika” (“Construction”), “Yunii proletarii” (“Young proletarian”).In 1929 got acquainted with P. Filonov and became his follower. In 1930 studied at “School of theoretical Art masters”. Member of Leningrad branch of Union of USSR Artists. Worked for production company “Lenfilm” under A. Arapov, was an art director for several films. Got through the Seige of Leningrad and was evacuated to Kazakhstan, where he had got an appointment to the Country Center Associated studio (TsOKS). After World War II stayed in Alma-Ata at “Kazakhfilm” studio as an Art director (was a production designer from 1955). Honored artist of Kazakh SSR. Taught Art history in Alma-Ata Art College, Architecture Academy, at a production classes under “Kazakhfilm” studio. Graphic works and pictures are kept in Tretyakov State Gallery, Russian State Museum, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Kazakhstan State Art Museum and others.
