Lisitskiy El' (1890-1941)

Lisitskiy El' (1890-1941) (1890-1941)

Artist and architect. One of the outstanding representatives of the Russian avant-garde. In 1919, at the invitation of Marc Chagall, he moved to Vitebsk, where he taught at the People's Art School (1919-1920). Unlike Chagall, who gravitated towards the traditional Jewish art, since 1920 Lissitzky turned to Suprematism under Malevich. In 1919-1921 he was one of the active war activists of his K. Malevich in the Vitebsk UNOVIS. Here Lissitzky creates his PROUNs. Taught at the Moscow VKHUTEMAS (1921) and VKHUTEIN (since 1926); in 1920 he joined GINHUK. He was fond of photography, in particular, photomontage. The works are kept in public and private museums, as well as types of private collections.
