Salakhov Tair Teimur Ogly

Salakhov Tair Teimur Ogly (1928-2021).

Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1968), one of the leading ‘severe style’ artists of Azerbaijan and Russia. Salakhov studied at the Baku A. Azimzade Art School (1950) and the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (1957).
He first lived in Baku, then moved to Moscow but frequently visited his native city. Among the artists he was influenced by were Alexander Deineka and Pavel Korin (the ‘heroic portraits’).
Salakhov made himself a name with his scenes from oil-industry workers’ life and portraits of artists. From 1973 to 1992, he was being the First Secretary of the Artists’ Union of the USSR, since 1979 the Secretary Academician for the painting section of the Russian Academy of Arts, since 1996 the Academy’s Vice President. Many of Salakhov’s major works reflect his impressions from foreign trips to Spain, the USA, Mexico and other countries. The artist also worked a lot as a scene-designer and taught at the Baku Aliyev Art School (1963 to 1974) and at the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (since 1975).
His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in the R. Mustafayev Azerbaijani State Museum of Fine Arts (Baku), and in many other museums.
