Antokolsky Mark Matveyevich (1843, Vilna, the Russian Empire - 1902, Frankfurt am Main).

An outstanding Russian sculptor-realist, since 1871 - Academician of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences, since 1880 - Professor of Sculpture. The work of Antokolsky, formed at the time of the revolutionary democratic upsurge of Russia in the sixties, and later with its entire content associated with the ideas of peredvizhnichestvo, represents a remarkable phenomenon in the history of Russian art.
