Kotov Petr Ivanovich

Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Laureate of the State prize of the USSR in 1948. Was born in a family of an icon painter. Studied at Kazanskaya School of Arts under N.I. Feshin (1903-1909), then in the Arts Academy in F.A. Rubo`s studio. Studied old masters works of art in the Hermitage and the Russian museum. In 1916 received a title of an artist for and retirement allowance for traveling abroad “Preparing for Hunting” and “A Letter from the Motherland, sitting in trenches”. Since 1922 lived in Moscow. Became a member of AHRR (1923-1928). During the years of war in Penza, was responsible for the release of “Windows of TASS”. In 1948 was a teacher in the Higher State Studios of Art in Astrakhan (1937-1941), in VGIK (1944-1948), Surikov Moscow State Institute. (1949-1950). Since 1940 became a professor. The artist’s works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery and many regional museums.
