Popov Igor Alexandrovich (1927, Kharkov – 1999, Moscow).
Studied at the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (1945-1951) under V. Pochitalov, S. Gerasimov. V. Popkov, V. Stozharov, V. Ivanov, А. Tutunov, I. Shevandronova, N. Andronov were among his fellow students. A trip to the North inspired Popov to a number of landscape pictures. In 1985 he took part in making wall paintings for the Reception House. In mid-70s he was head of the Moscow Artists’ Union. An outstanding master of cityscape painting, Igor Popov made numerous pictures of Moscow characterized by finesse and lyricism. The artist had his one-man show in Moscow in 1989. His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in the Kiev Museum of Russian Art, in big regional museums, and in private collections in Russia and abroad.
