The most expensive lot is estimated for 185 000 $ -190 000 $. The masterpiece of Philippe Malyavin (1869 -1940) “The swings” got this high mark, created in the traditional style on the, canvas, size 55 x 46 cm. The date of this picture is unknown. Philippe Malyavin was the representative of Russian Modern; his teachers were the famous Russian artists as I. Repin and V. Vereshchagin.
With the same high estimate as the lot above, the work of Boris (Bera) Anisfeld (1879-1973) is presented for the sales. This work “Elegy” is estimated for 185 000 $ - 190 000 $, dated 1939. Anisfeld was a member of “World of Art”, went to USA where he lectured at the University of Chicago, as well as worked as an artist at “Metropolitan opera” and “Chicago opera”.
«Mountainscape with camels” by Martiros Saryan (1880-1972) is estimated for 138 000$ - 140 000$. M. Saryan studied at the Korovin’s and Serov’s studios, worked in Russia and abroad (in Paris) and in last years of his life in Yerevan. « « Mountainscape» was created in 1926 and till this time belong to private collection.
In the collection of this auction are presented the works of the artist with world names. One of the best ones is the work of Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939) “Village holidays”. This masterpiece was created approximately in 1920s on a small sheet of pasteboard, size 35 x 27 cm. The artist used mixed style. The work “Village holidays” is a property of V.A. Bondarenko’s collection.
It is interesting to point out one more lot, which got a high mark of the experts of the auction house. It is the work of David Burliuk “Homage to Courbet”. The date of this masterpiece is unknown; about the provenance is known that the work belonged to private collection. In 2005 the work was sold at the Sotheby’s sales. SOVCOM gallery will sell this lot with the estimate for 77 000 -80 000 $.
In whole the estimates of the auction of the 22nd of April is rather high. But many of the valued masterpieces of Russian artists will be sold with an advanced estimate for 10 000 $. Among the most interesting ones are two sketches of costumes by M. Dobuginsky to the opera “Evgeny Onegin”. Both of the sketches are dated 1935 and were created in Litva. In autumn 2005 the works were bought by present owner at the auction Hotel Drouot in Paris.
